In person or virtual therapy sessions are designed to be a collaborative experience between Mary and you. You are the expert in your own life and together with Mary, therapeutic goals will be defined and a Treatment Plan will be yours to keep and refer to even if you do not feel the need for therapy any longer.
When your family meets with Mary, she will help to identify underlying themes, notice patterns of communication, and identify the roles that different family members may take on. These insights are then used collaboratively and compassionately to help the family work on developing effective solutions for alleviating dysfunction as a team in a way that avoids shaming and blaming individual family members.
Couples often come to therapy polarized by reactivity and power struggles that make them feel increasingly disconnected. Trapped in impasses, they are unable to change on their own, Mary can offer guidance to identify negative patterns of communication and dysfunction. Couples can then begin to form an empathetic stance towards each other instead of a critical one.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT
I implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.
